The Association of Surfing Lawyers was founded when avid surfer and environmentalist, David Olan, with the help of founding members, Rick Barron, Richard Hamar, Grant Hardacre, Debbie Jones and Dan Brookman founded the group.

The Association of Surfing Lawyers aims to foster good will,
balance, camaraderie and networking among surfing lawyers and was formed with the intention to align itself with ocean based charities and causes.

ASL travels to exotic surf locations and holds meetings, beach parties, and events throughout the year. The Association of Surfing Lawyers also offers continuing education courses and is State Bar and MCLE approved.

ASL has over 200 active members throughout the United States including New York, Florida, San Diego, Orange County and additional chapters in San Francisco, Portland, Vancouver, Sydney, and Western Australia.
